In 1906, my great grandmother enrolled at Tuskegee University, under the leadership and support of Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Morris Ketchum Jesup, and countless other educators and philanthropists. She graduated with a degree in nursing but could only find work mopping floors as a result of Jim Crow laws.

I was influenced by philanthropists like Jesup and molded by the bright history of my family spanning three generations of educators that followed in my great grandmother’s footsteps. My school years were filled with several engineering internships, studying under Dr. Paul Ruffin, the U.S. government’s first African American Senior Research Scientist at AMRDEC.

In 2004, my mother, Dr. Dorothy Huston, transitioned as Vice President of Alabama A&M University and founded TMT Group, a small business providing services to the Department of Defense. With the support of my father, an elementary school principal, I watched and learned as both of my parents taught me by example what it takes to be an entrepreneur. They were the best teachers I’ve ever had.

My first business, Huston’s Mergers & Acquisitions, was a firm that focused on establishing offshore contact centers for brokerages, insurers, and FinTech companies; several of which are our partners today.

After spending over a decade working with investment firms, we decided to establish Bay Street Capital Holdings to improve the outlook for plan participants of Title IV universities. The firm creates low-cost, well-managed defined contribution plans (governed by ERISA) for Title IV Universities and provides institutional services for endowments and foundations (governed by UPMIFA).

I currently live in Palo Alto, with my wife and absolute best friend Tu Vy. We have an amazing church family here in the Bay Area that aims to be an exact reflection of Jesus, the Son of God (Romans 8:29).
